Today in the league of titans, we have Elon Musk facing off with OpenAI. In a plot worthy of a novel, OpenAI has stated that it intends to refute the claims made by Musk in his recent lawsuit. They maintain that Musk's contribution to the company has not been as significant as it suggests, unraveling a web of intrigues and disagreements.

The revealing post on OpenAI's blog exposes that only less than $45 million had been raised from Musk, contradicting his initial commitment to provide up to a billion in funding. Musk's lawsuit last week argued that OpenAI had deviated from its foundational mission of developing AI that would benefit humanity, rather than seeking profits. Apparently, the co-founder/regulator/space cadet did not take this shift in focus too well.

💸 Wait! Is Musk upset about... low ROI? Oh, the irony.

The disagreements at OpenAI began with the need to switch to a for-profit structure to support the development costs of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). According to OpenAI, it was at this point when Musk began to press for a merger with Tesla or, alternatively, total control of the startup.

However, this hardly seems like a hurdle for vigorous OpenAI. As Musk sweats, this valuable AI startup continues to advance in its mission to ensure that AGI benefits all of humanity. In the meantime, OpenAI's efforts are empowering people in places like Kenya and India. One could argue they are gaining ground, both on the court and in the field of AI.

Undoubtedly, this face-off between Musk and OpenAI could have significant ramifications for the future of AI. But it seems that OpenAI has no intention of stopping, and we are here for everything that happens. Let the game begin and may AI always be in your favor!

Someone just made a big move on the global technology chess board. India has decided to put all its weight behind the growth and democratization of Artificial Intelligence (AI), allocating a whopping USD 1,250 million to boost startups and AI innovation nationwide through the IndiaAi Mission.

The IndiaAI Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet, is not simply an ambitious project, it's a movement that could shake up the global AI board. This initiative seeks to provide computing power nationwide for innovators, startups, students, and educational institutions. With components focused on building and democratizing computing capacity, access to quality non-personal data sets, and the development of AI applications, India plans to bring technological forefront to every corner of its nation.

🌐 In a world where we're all racing towards AI, India just bought a rocket!

The approval of this mission by the Union Cabinet is a significant step in India's journey to become a global leader in AI innovation, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is not just a boost for startups and science, it's a strategic move that will likely drive India's economy and generate highly skilled job opportunities.

Even though the announcement of the IndiaAI Mission has undoubtedly aroused excitement, it has also come with a note of caution. India has insisted on the need for government approval before launching new AI tools, a measure aimed at maintaining control over AI innovations in the nation. On the global technology chess board, India has just moved its queen. Now, it's only a matter of waiting to see how the other players respond.

Cutting straight to the chase, Artificial Intelligence companies, from the new startup Anthropic to the veteran Google, love AI models. However, in this race towards AI supremacy, there is a question that few ask: What do their boasting metrics really mean? And moreover, is it likely to lead to a noticeable change in the user experience?

Anthropic, Inflection AI, Google, and OpenAI claim to dominate the AI scoreboard with cutting-edge models. But here arises a problem, and it's not a small one. The challenge lies in how these AI companies use certain benchmarks to determine the effectiveness of their models. It turns out, these references can come from metrics that do not capture how the average user interacts with the models. Instead, they evaluate them in aspects completely unrelated to real-life problems and challenges, such as, who needs an AI to solve doctoral physics quantum equations when they are mostly used for answering emails?

💡 It seems that some of these AI companies are more interested in winning the "benchmark race" than understanding the real needs of their users.

This "evaluation crisis”, described by Jesse Dodge from the Allen Institute for AI, highlights the need for a change in focus in the evaluation of AI models. Dodge suggests that the ideal solution might be a midpoint between benchmarks and human evaluation. However, David Widder, a researcher at Cornell, goes a step further and advises that we should focus on the tangible influence of these models and whether they provide benefits that users consider truly valuable.

In summary, benchmarks are not completely useless, but while AI companies fight for technical superiority, they often lose sight of the most important goal: The End User. Therefore, |perhaps it's time to measure AI success not only in terms of technical capacity but also real benefit and value to the users who use them every day. Don’t you think so?
