Invest before this company becomes a household name

What if you had the opportunity to invest in the biggest electronics products before they launched into big box retail, would you?

Ring changed doorbells and Nest changed thermostats. Early investors in these companies earned massive returns, but the opportunity to invest was limited to a select, wealthy few. Not anymore. RYSE has just launched in 100+ Best Buy stores, and you're in luck โ€” you can still invest at only $1.50/share before their name becomes known nationwide.

They have patented the only mass market shade automation device, and their exclusive deal with Best Buy resembles that which led Ring and Nest to their billion-dollar buyouts.

FOCUS: AI Index Unveils 2023's Wild AI Trends ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿค–

The highly anticipated AI Index report from Stanford's Human-Centered AI Institute has dropped, offering a comprehensive pulse check on the latest AI trends, breakthroughs, and battles. Here are some of the most eye-opening revelations:

Open-Source AI Is Booming...But Lagging ๐Ÿ”“

Open-source foundation models more than doubled in 2023, now accounting for nearly 66% of new releases. However, proprietary models from big tech still outperform open models by over 24% on average benchmarks.

Big Tech Bosses Up ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™‚๏ธ

No surprises here - industry giants like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI dominated AI progress in 2023. Google edged out the field by releasing the most new foundation models, while OpenAI's powerhouse offerings like GPT-4 shattered training cost records.

AI Decimates Human Benchmarks ๐Ÿง  ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Better start studying, humans. AI has now matched or exceeded human-level performance on numerous benchmark testing skills like reading comprehension, coding, and visual reasoning. The remaining holdouts like competition math had better watch their back.

U.S. Leads, World Follows ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ’ช

In AI capabilities, private investment, and talent migration, the U.S. decisively overshadowed the rest of the globe in 2023. American companies and researchers produced the vast majority of notable AI models and advancements.

Generative AI Explodes ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Generative AI investment skyrocketed nearly 9x compared to 2022, benefitting from the viral success of tools like ChatGPT. The $25.2 billion poured into gen AI startups in 2023 accounted for over 25% of total AI investment.

Businesses AI-fy, Public Worries ๐Ÿข โš ๏ธ

While over half of businesses embraced AI for operations in 2023, employees are growing apprehensive. Gen Z and millennials expect AI to heavily disrupt their jobs, with higher-income earners most fearful of replacement.

Regulation Ramps Up ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ

Numerous U.S. agencies like the SEC, FTC, and Copyright Office enacted new rules to govern AI development and use. Expect regulatory oversight to intensify as the tech continues rapidly advancing.

Buckle up, folks - if this year's AI Index is any indication, the great artificial revolution is just getting started. The machines are coming...and they're damn impressive so far.

AI Takes to the Skies in Historic Robotic Dogfight ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โœˆ๏ธ

Move over, Maverick - the era of autonomous fighter jets is officially here. The U.S. Air Force just revealed that in 2023, an AI agent successfully piloted the X-62 VISTA aircraft in simulated air combat scenarios against a human pilot controlling an F-16.

That's right, in a milestone breakthrough earning the X-62 team a Collier Trophy nomination, artificial intelligence took the stick in white-knuckle "dogfighting" engagements. The AI navigated complex offensive and defensive maneuvers at blistering speeds under 2,000 feet apart from its human opponent.

"Talk to me Goose!" The AI radios back: "Sorry human, I've calculated this is an unwinnable engagement for you."

During over 100,000 lines of software changes across 21 test flights, the AI displayed capabilities once thought exclusive to elite human pilots - rapidly analyzing scenarios, reacting with turbo-charged timing, and pulling off precise high-aspect kill shots.

Of course, safety pilots were present to disengage the AI if needed. But according to the Air Force, the human overseers never had to intervene as the artificial mastermind performed flawlessly throughout its airborne ballet.

The counterintuitive idea of entrusting multimillion-dollar aircraft to inscrutable AI algorithms may seem terrifying. But officials highlight this as a massive leap toward safer, more reliable autonomy in both military and commercial aviation. Ominous sci-fi premise or not, smarter planes are an inevitability.

As a foundation for future aerospace AI programs, the X-62 trials prove that non-deterministic machine learning can be deployed responsibly in even the most dynamic, unforgiving environments. Assuming development stays on the up-and-up, our robot overlord pilots could be the ones keeping us safe in the skies before long.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have the sudden urge to feel the need...the need for speed! Because apparently us fleshy humans still have the upper hand when it comes to regurgitating stale 80s pop culture references.

When "Open Source" AI Isn't So Open ๐Ÿ”“๐Ÿค–

In the AI world, the phrase "open source" gets tossed around a lot by big tech companies looking to market their latest language models. But increasingly, these so-called open source releases come burdened with enough legal and technical restrictions to make Linus Torvalds roll over in his sleeping bag.

Case in point - Meta's newly unveiled Llama 3 models, which the company proudly branded as "open source" while prohibiting them from being used to train other AI systems. Developers with over 700 million users? They need special permission from the meta overlords.

AI be like: "It's open source...with a few caveats, hidden fees, and strings attached!"

Of course, debates over what constitutes true open-source software are nothing new. But as AI becomes more powerful and lucrative, major players seem increasingly willing to put their sticky, proprietary fingerprints all over publicly available models and datasets.

A 2022 study found this disturbing trend extends far beyond Meta. Many touted "open source" AI projects keep key ingredients like training data and computing resources under tight wraps. Their maintainers reap the benefits of the open-source ethos while the wider community gets table scraps.

The implications are troubling. Rather than democratizing transformative AI capabilities, these faux-open releases often further entrench the dominance of established tech giants. It's open-source theatrics masking increasingly centralized control over pivotal technologies.

To be fair, there are unresolved legal and technical complexities around truly open-sourcing intricate AI systems. Training data often contains copyrighted material, while models themselves inhabit bizarre IP gray areas. Distributing them widely presents major challenges.

Still, big tech's solution of bundling publicly released models with strings attached feels more like a power-preserving band-aid than a true step toward openness and accessibility. As the study's authors advise, we'd be wise to take Silicon Valley's "open source" AI marketing with trucks of salt.

Because when the world's most advanced AI systems remain proprietary walled gardens, it's the open web itself that risks getting closed off. The future of transformative technology should belong to the many, not unjustly monopolized by self-appointed gatekeepers.
